Supported Independent Living That Feels Like Home
Your home should be somewhere you feel comfortable, safe and in control.
Supported Independent Living (SIL) provides assistance or supervision with everyday activities for eligible NDIS participants with significant support needs.
At Camden Care, we focus on providing reliable support while helping participants develop skills and live as independently as possible.
What Can SIL Support Include?
Depending on your individual support needs, SIL may include assistance or supervision with:
personal care
preparing meals
cooking
household routines
cleaning and household tasks
medication-related support within appropriate arrangements
developing daily living skills
establishing routines
attending appointments
accessing the community
communication and social skills
overnight support
supervision and safety
building independence within the home.
Your Home Should Still Be Your Home
We work with participants to understand their:
preferred routines
goals
personal boundaries
communication needs
social preferences
cultural requirements
household preferences
level of independence.
Where support is shared, we also recognise the importance of compatibility between housemates and maintaining each person's individual rights and choices.
Individualised Support
The amount and type of SIL support required varies from person to person.
Some participants may require significant assistance throughout the day and overnight.
Others may require supervision, prompting or support with particular daily activities.
We work from the participant's assessed support needs and agreed support arrangements rather than applying the same model to everyone.
Developing Daily Living Skills
Where appropriate, our team can help participants build skills in areas such as:
preparing meals
maintaining their room and home
personal routines
making choices
planning activities
communicating needs
managing everyday responsibilities
participating in household decisions.
The objective is greater independence wherever reasonably possible.
Overnight Support
Where funded and required, SIL arrangements may include overnight support based on the participant's assessed needs and agreed support model.
The type and level of overnight support required will be discussed during the assessment and onboarding process.
SIL Is Support — Not the Property Itself
Supported Independent Living generally relates to the support provided within the home rather than the cost of the accommodation itself.
Rent, groceries, utilities and ordinary household expenses are generally separate from SIL support.
Already Have SIL Funding?
If you already have SIL funding and are considering changing providers, our team can discuss:
your current support arrangements
staffing requirements
preferred roster
overnight requirements
transition planning
participant goals
worker compatibility
continuity of support.
